We traveled to the Grand Canyon for perhaps the fifteenth time in early May, 2006. Our intent was to try a trail we had never walked, the Grandview. It proved extremely steep and exposed so, as often happens on our treks, we changed plan in favor of another route in the beautiful Ponderosa Pine forest on the south rim. We hiked portions of the Arizona Trail, near an old fire tower and settler's cabin as well as day-hiking down the familiar Kaibab Trail, half-way down the Canyon.
